Maybe it was the warm spring evening with a wif of that sweet 410 methanol in the air, but it felt damn good to be in central pennsylvania dirt trackin' again...

The make-up feature which oddly enough, was started single file with 24 laps to go. it started fast and furious. Leppo was wunning wide open on the pole when two cars stalled on the back stretch bringing out the 1st yellow. I think it was 64k and 17... 2 or 3 slow laps later and they were raging out of 3 and 4 all over again. Again with leppo setting the pace until the lap traffic appeared. The 5 showed his track expierience and quickly sliced through which lead the way for rahmer to close in on second in the end laps. again some contact in 1 and 2 could have been dewease and wolfe brought out the yellow flag on the final lap. shaffer and rahmer dueled it all out ahead of the lapped traffic. i thought we were gonna fall under fast fredies rule so early this season but the congratulations go out to shaffer.

freddie and stutts really put on a great heat race. they even seamed to be exchanging some words down the back stretch that stutts later clarified by cutting rahmer off the way rahmer did when he stole the final lap of the heat. but i guess that racin

during the 410 consellation Mzzz Judi Bates in her almost weekly attack ran over the 3 car and again we stood there squandering another 20 minutes cleaning up, with the storm clouds rolling in... lighning on the ominous horizon

then it rained just like last week.

MODIFIED QUALIFYING PROCEDURES CHANGED FOR 2006 SEASON AT GRANDVIEW SPEEDWAY
MANDATORY DRIVERS MEETING SET FOR OPENING NIGHT


BECHTELSVILLE, PA March 25, 2006 . . . . With a new handicapping system in place thirty cars will start the NASCAR Modified feature races at Grandview Speedway during the 2006 season.
Opening night racing action, April 1st, at the Bechtelsville clay oval will see all Modified racers draw for starting positions in the qualifying heat races leading up to the 40-lap season opener that will reward the winner with $3,000. This will be the start of the 44th consecutive season of stock car racing at Grandview Speedway.
Based on the finishes of opening night the new handicapping system will be put in place starting with the April 8th NASCAR Modified racing events.
Thirty third thru last in points and drivers making their first appearance of the season will be handicapped in the first two ten lap heat races. Three cars will qualify from each heat race for feature starting positions 17 through 22nd. Non-qualifiers will compete in the first consolation race with two qualifying for the feature.
The top 32 in points will be handicapped in heat races three through six. Four cars will qualify from each heat race for feature starting positions one through 16.
Non-qualifiers compete in second and third consolation races with three qualifying for the feature race.
A total of 30 cars will start each weekly 30-lap NASCAR Modified feature race.
The previous week’s feature winner will start 16th if he or she is able to qualify through a heat race.
The Cash Dash for Modifieds has been eliminated with heat race winner now collecting $50.
Working radios will be mandatory in each race car (Modifieds and Late Models) as will transponders. It will be up to each racer to be sure radios and transponders are in working order.
A mandatory drivers meeting will take place at 5 p.m. on opening night, April 1st.
Opening night action at the Berks County oval will include a full series of qualifying events for the NASCAR Modifieds and Late Model stock cars leading up to a 40-lap feature race for the Modifieds and a 20-lap main event for the Late Models.
Adult tickets for opening night are priced at $15.00 while children will be admitted for $5.00 and children under 6 will be admitted FREE when accompanied by a paying adult.
Five time track champion Jeff Strunk will kick off defense of his 2005 NASCAR Modified title. He will come up against some great stock car racing talents in five time champion Craig VonDohren, three time champion Duane Howard plus other former champions including Ray Swinehart, Tom Mayberry and Terry Meitzler. Stock car racing legend Billy Pauch will see action as will other top stars that will be making Grandview Speedway their home track in 2006.
Added to the schedule for 2006 are four Legends car events on April 29, June 3, July 8, and August 12th. The 600 Modifieds will be at Grandview on June 10th and July 22nd.

SPRINTS AND LATE MODELS SET FOR FRIDAY NIGHT OPENER

MARCH 31 MECHANICSBURG, PA -- Williams Grove Speedway will switch to its Friday night schedule on March 31 when the Outlaw-type late model stock cars will make their first appearance of the season along with the sprint cars. In the past Williams Grove has always attracted some of the top late model drivers in the East and this year should be no exception. Rain postponed the only scheduled appearance of the late models in 2005 on April 1, but the teams were invited back to run their rained-out feature and another complete program in August. Gary Stuhler won the rained-out feature and Dan Stone won the second event of the night. It was the second career victory for Stone at Williams Grove. Stuhler is the leading active late model winner at this historic speedway. His total of 17 victories places him behind only Bobby Goodling (31), Ronnie McBee (26) and Gary Snellbaker (20) on the track's career win list for late model drivers. The late models were once a regular weekly attraction at Williams Grove along with the sprint cars, but in recent years have made only one or two appearances per season. The powerful stock car division has been plagued with weather problems at Williams Grove in the past. This year a second sprint/late model double header has been set for April 21. "We have had tremendous support from the late model teams and their fans in the past despite our problems with the weather," said Justin Loh, co-manager of Williams Grove Speedway. "This year we've given ourselves a second opportunity to beat the weather and present some exciting late model racing at Williams Grove." The super sportsman cars will return to the Grove along with the sprint cars on April 7.

ESH FIRST TO REPEAT IN 410 SPRINTS AT LINCOLN SPEEDWAY
"The Hammer" wins 2nd of 2005
ABBOTTSTOWN, PA, 3/25/06 - The famous “wing dance” told the tale after a wild 25-lap 410 sprint feature in the first night race of the year at Lincoln Speedway Saturday.

Doug “the Hammer” Esh took advantage of a 17th-lap tangle involving Chad Layton and Fred Rahmer to advance from fourth to second and then a 21st-lap spin by World of Outlaw star Daryn Pittman to drive around leader Eric Stambaugh on the restart and storm to his second win of the year in the Pigeon Hills.

Points handicapping placed Esh seventh for the start. He drove by Cory Haas to enter the top five on lap two, then got by Danny Dietrich and Brian Montieth to advance to third on lap five.

One lap earlier, fourth-starting Sam Schlosberg got by Stambaugh for the lead on a restart following a caution for Pat Cooper, who came to a stop on the front stretch. Schlosberg led the next five laps before Stambaugh reclaimed the lead, a position he maintained until yielding the Esh on lap 21.

Esh followed Stambaugh and Schlosberg as they raced for the lead, but gave up third to a charging Chad Layton on lap 11. Layton and Esh both got by Schlosberg for second and third on lap 13, but then 11th-starting Fred Rahmer got by Esh for third two laps later. Just when it looked like the eventual winner would have to settle for a solid top five run, disaster struck for two of the most famous cars in sprint car racing.

Stambaugh’s lead was 2.61 seconds when Rahmer and Layton got together in turn four of lap 17. The contact flattened the right rear of Rahmer’s J&S Fabrication/Miller Brothers Chevrolet #22 and left rear tire of Layton’s York Excavating Company/Apple Dealerships #12. Both drivers made tire changes and joined the rear of the field, with Rahmer coming back through the field to finish sixth and Layton recovering the finish eighth.

Esh assumed second for the restart, and chased Stambaugh for the next four laps before Pittman, who had advanced from 14th starting spot, spun in turn four while running fourth.

On the restart, Esh drove to the edge of the cushion to get around the Swope’s Salvage & Recycling #4, then held off repeated challenges of Stambaugh through two more cautions over the last four laps to score the .50-second win, the 11th of his career at Lincoln.

“Eric raced me hard,” said the happy winner in victory lane, “It was good, clean racing. We used to race together in micros. He’s one of the best competitors out here...he’s just struggling a little bit.”

“We did get lucky there,” added Esh, “Layton got good around the bottom and got by me, and I should have moved down. Then Fred got by me, and I don’t know what happened down there (the Layton-Rahmer tangle). We got lucky. We weren’t the best car at that point, and there’s a lot of friends here that have been coming for a long, long time...and we couldn’t for them, but we did tonight.”

Stambaugh settled for second, with 13th-starting Lance Dewease crossing third, 12th-starting Greg Hodnett fourth, and 20th-starting Chris Knopp fifth. Completing the top ten were Rahmer, Alan Krimes, Layton, Scott Geesey, and Pittman.

Heats for the 27 “410" sprinters were won by Stambaugh, Esh and Steve Clabaugh, with Brian Leppo winning the consolation event.

Rochelle set 15-lap record en route to win
Jason Rochelle drove to his second win in as many nights (Path Valley on Friday) to remain undefeated in the 2006 Glick Fire Equipment Company campaign with his record-breaking performance in the non-stop 15-lap INEX Legends feature. Rochelle bested teammate Ronnie Dunstan in an event which completed a caution-free night for the Legends, with former record-holder Tim Tomson finishing third, Steve Nederostek fourth, and 15th-starting Rod Kistler fifth.

The non-stop feature saw 28 of 29 starters finish the race. Rochelle’s 15-lap time of 5 minutes, 16.67 seconds shattered the old record of 5:30.39 set by Tomson on September 1, 2001.

Heats for the 27 INEX Legends were won by Rochelle, Josh Morrow and Dunstan.

Wagaman becomes 5th different thundercar winner
Gettysburg’s Craig Wagaman out-dueled Mike Walls for 14 straight laps en route to his 22nd career win in the 20-lap thundercar feature. Wagaman was the fifth different driver to arrive in victory lane in as many races.

Wagaman, who started third, trailed polesitter Danny Beard and sixth-starting Mike Walls after the first lap, and watched as Walls took over on the second lap. Beard regained the lead on the third lap as Wagaman then got around Walls for second on the fifth lap. Wagaman then slipped by Beard for the top spot on the sixth lap with 18-time career winner Walls falling in behind on the seventh lap.

From there the top-pair dueled high and low at both ends of the speedway over the remainder of the race with Wagaman holding on for a .67-second win, his first of 2006.

10th-starting Neil Smith finished third, 16th-starting Jim Martz Jr. fourth and opening day winner Duane Watson fifth. Completing the top-10 were Rick Weaver, Dan Zechman, Smoke Christine, Mike Gladfelter and Mike Slaybaugh.

Heats for the 26 thundercars were won by Wagaman, Walls, and Christine, with Bob Stough winning the consolation event.

Next Saturday night, April 1st, Lincoln will run-off it’s second evening show of 2006 featuring the 410 Sprint and Thundercar regulars, along with the former Silver Spring Limited Late Model division cars at 6 PM.. Gates will open at 4 PM.

NIKI YOUNG WINS SECOND OF HIS CAREER AT THE GROVE , DAVE CALAMAN WINS SUPER SPORTSMAN.


March 26, 2006 - Niki Young outran a strong field to win the
25-lap sprint car feature Sunday afternoon at Williams Grove Speedway
and Dave Calaman led flag to flag to win the super sportsman main event.


Young started on the pole and beat Michael Carber into the first
corner at the drop of the green.


Mike Erdley, who started fourth, drove into the runnerup spot on
the first lap and began to chase the leader.


Although Erdley was able to apply plenty of pressure, Young never
wavered and held on for his second career win at Williams Grove.
He earned $3000 for his performance.


Erdley, who has been second on several occasions, but has never won
at the Grove, was forced to settle for the runnerup spot again.
Todd Shaffer finished a strong third after starting sixth. Chad
Layton came from seventh to fourth and Fred Rahmer, who started tenth,
completed the top five.


Chris Knopp completed a strong effort to finish sixth.
Cindy Rowe Auto Glass point leader Lance Dewease turned in the best
passing performance of the afternoon as he charged from the 19th
starting position to finish seventh.


World of Outlaws invader Daryn Pittman of Owasso, Oklahoma, was
almost as impressive moving from 18th to eighth.


Heats for the 35 sprint cars were won by Young, Carber and Erdley.
The consolation race went to Dewease.


Calaman started third and took the lead on the first lap of the
20-lap sportsman feature, then cruised to his fifth career win in the
division at Williams Grove.


Danny Hager finished second, .88 off Calaman's pace. John Stehman
was third, Frankie Herr fourth and Paul Miller fifth.


Heats for the 38 sportsman cars went to Steve Wilbur, Calaman, Rich
Eichelberger and Herr. The consolation races were won by Leroy Martin
and Gregg Foster.


Williams Grove switches to Friday night racing on March 31 with
sprints and late models as the featured attractions.

SELINSGROVE, Pa

SELINSGROVE, Pa. - TJ Stutts of Liverpool picked up his second win of the season at Selinsgrove Speedway. Stutts was followed by Keith Kauffman, Todd Shaffer, Lucas Wolfe, and teenager Ryan Bohlke in fifth. Sixth through tenth went to Fred Rahmer, Mark Freeland, Lance DeWease, Blane Heimbach, and Todd Hestor. National Sprint Tour Invader Darryn Pittman suffered a flat tire late in the event and wound up outside the top 10. Greg Hodnett led much of the main event, until he blew a right rear tire sending him into the turn 2 wall, ending any chance of a feature win for the Hamilton Motorsports #77. John Westbrook flipped violently out over the turn 1 guardrail, similar to last week's Mark Smith crash. John was ok. Complete story and results to follow.

Cajun Cooks in O'Reilly ASCoT OKC Prelim

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. (March 24, 2006) – Louisiana’s Jason Johnson provided the spice in Friday night’s O’Reilly American Sprint Cars on Tour Spring Nationals at Oklahoma City’s State Fair Speedway, besting a field of 55 entries by capturing his first series victory of the season in the 25-lap preliminary feature event.

Johnson charged past early pacesetter Zach Chappell following a lap six restart, then held off a fast-closing Danny Lasoski, who fell little more than a car length short at the checkered flag after charging from the 19th starting position.

Chappell settled for the show position, with two-time and defending series champion Gary Wright taking the fourth and final lock-in position to Saturday night’s Spring Nationals finale.

Saturday's Oklahoma City Spring Nationals finale at State Fair Speedway is slated to get under way at 7:15 p.m.

Michael Carber, an 18 year old youngster from Pipersville, PA is the first one entered in the 46th Annual Knoxville Nationals presented by Midwest Ford Dealers. The purse has been boosted close to $900,000 and a stellar field is expected in the unsanctioned event.

Dale McCarty of Eldorado Springs, MO, AJ Weaver of Houston, TX, and Edd French of Justin, TX, plan to return for this year's Hoosier Tire Midwest Masters/Young Guns Challenge on June 2. Russ Harper of Watkins, CO and Doug DeWitt of Sunnyvale, CA are the first to enter the 5th Annual Pepsi/Mt. Dew Knoxville Midget Nationals, which will be held June 2-3.

KAUFFMAN WINS 50TH CAREER AT GROVE,
HAAS WINS LIMITED SPRINT FEATURE


March 19, 2006 - Keith Kauffman, at age 55, outlasted 23 younger competitors to score a thrilling last lap victory in the sprint car feature Sunday afternoon at Williams Grove Speedway.

The victory, worth $3000, was the 50th of Kauffman's Hall of Fame career at Williams Grove.

When Opening Day winner Lance Dewease drew the pole starting position, he seemed like a good bet to lead flag-to-flag, which he nearly did.

Dewease beat T. J. Stutts into the first corner at the start of the 25-lap event and began to put some space between himself and the rest of the field.


Kauffman, who started fourth, drove into the runnerup spot on the first lap. But Stutts came back to pass Kauffman on lap ten.

Five laps later Kauffman regained the runnerup position, but Dewease still looked like the class of the field.

In the closing laps most eyes were on a tremendous battle for positions involving Stutts, Doug Esh , Fred Rahmer and Greg Hodnett. While positions were changing behind the leaders, Kauffman was beginning to close on the Dewease.

He found some rubber on the low side of the race track and drove alongside Dewease entering the third corner on the 24th lap and edged in front at the finish line. A lap later he finished with a .59 second margin over Dewease.

Esh held on for third with Stutts fourth and Rahmer fifth.

Hodnett, Chad Layton, Todd Shaffer, Alan Krimes and Rick
Lafferty finished in positions six through ten respectively.

Heats for the 33 sprint cars were won by Shaffer. Hodnett and Rahmer. Michael Carber won the consolation race.


Defending champion Cory Haas wired the field to win the 20-lap limited (358 c.i.) sprint feature ahead of Jimmy Layton, Kevin Nagy, Frankie Herr and Steve Buckwalter.

Heats for the 35 cars went to Nate Snyder, Haas, Kyle Purks and Herr. The consolation races went to Kevin Nouse and Billy Dietrich

The super sportsman cars join the sprints oon March 26 at 2:00 at Williams Grove Speedway.
